What is regenerative medicine?

Care that helps the body repair, restore and regenerate — instead of simply masking symptoms.

Regenerative medicine is a field of care that helps the body repair, restore and regenerate damaged tissue instead of simply masking symptoms. Rather than removing or replacing tissue through surgery, regenerative treatments use cells, growth factors and signaling molecules already central to natural healing — so recovery happens from within. At Skylake, regenerative medicine in Miami is delivered as a focused menu of therapies chosen for each patient’s condition and goals.

For many patients, regenerative therapy is a non-surgical option for persistent pain that has not responded to rest, medication or physical therapy. It is used across orthopedics, sports medicine and podiatry to support joints, tendons, ligaments and soft tissue.

How regenerative medicine works

When regenerative cells are injected or infused, they travel to areas of damage and begin working through paracrine signaling — releasing cytokines and growth factors that prompt surrounding cells to divide, form new blood vessels and rebuild tissue. This process reduces inflammation, calms the immune responses that drive ongoing tissue damage, and improves the nutrition and repair of the treated area.

Because regenerative medicine injections stimulate healing rather than cut tissue away, the approach is minimally invasive, carries a lower risk of bleeding, infection or scarring, and often allows a faster return to normal activity than traditional procedures.

Skylake’s regenerative treatments center on complementary therapies chosen for each patient’s condition. Explore each service to learn how it works and what it treats.

Stem Cell Therapy

Wharton’s Jelly-derived human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-WJ-MSCs) — a potent, immunoprivileged "age-zero" cell source — used to support the repair of joints, tendons and soft tissue.

Exosome Therapy

Regenerative vesicles derived from Wharton’s Jelly MSCs that carry growth factors, aid cell-to-cell communication and add powerful anti-inflammatory and regenerative signaling, often paired with stem cell therapy.

PRP Injections

Platelet-rich plasma concentrated from your own blood, injected to deliver a high dose of growth factors that reduce inflammation and accelerate the healing of chronic pain and injured tissue.

Which therapy is right for me?

Stem cell, exosome and PRP therapies are frequently combined; the best regenerative medicine treatment depends on your diagnosis, imaging and health history. Your Skylake physician recommends a personalized plan — and, when appropriate, discusses how regenerative options compare with surgery or cortisone injections.

Benefits of non-surgical regenerative medicine

Regenerate tissue from within — with less risk and a faster return to the things you do every day.

  • A non-surgical alternative: regenerate tissue from within instead of undergoing surgery.
  • Minimally invasive: reduced risk of bleeding, infection or scarring.
  • Faster recovery: most patients return to normal activities sooner than after surgery.
  • Personalized: every treatment plan is tailored to your medical history and goals.
  • Whole-body support: patients often report reduced chronic inflammation, better joint health and rejuvenating, anti-aging effects.

Conditions regenerative therapy can help

Regenerative medicine is used across a wide range of orthopedic, sports and podiatry conditions. Skylake evaluates each case individually and routes you to the right treatment.

A focus few Miami clinics offer

As a practice rooted in podiatry and foot-and-ankle care, Skylake offers a regenerative-medicine focus on the foot and ankle that few Miami clinics provide — combining orthopedic regenerative expertise with specialized lower-extremity care.

When will I see results?

Timing varies

Timing varies from patient to patient — some report meaningful improvement within the first week, while others notice change over several weeks. Age, diet and lifestyle all influence outcomes, so results cannot be guaranteed.

After treatment

A few simple guidelines

We recommend avoiding anti-inflammatory medication for at least six weeks, avoiding alcohol and recreational drugs for at least two weeks, resting for the first 24 to 48 hours, and easing into light activity within four to six days.

Safety, sourcing & Florida law

Skylake holds itself to strict safety and ethical standards — and we believe in being transparent about them.

FDA status

There are currently no FDA-approved stem cell or exosome therapies. More research is still underway to define optimal use.

Florida Stem Cell Therapy Act

Effective July 1, 2025, this law authorizes board-licensed physicians to provide stem-cell therapies outside FDA-approved trials, provided they meet strict safety standards. It requires cells to be sourced from facilities that are FDA-registered and accredited by the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB), and it prohibits embryonic stem cells.

Ethical sourcing

All of Skylake’s stem cells and exosomes are Wharton’s Jelly-derived and sourced exclusively from qualified US donors after healthy live births. We do not use embryonic stem cells, bone-marrow-derived cells or aborted tissue.

Screening

Every donor and cell line undergoes rigorous screening and testing for the safest possible care.

Regenerative medicine FAQ

Honest answers to what patients ask most before booking a consultation.

Is regenerative medicine surgery?
No. Regenerative medicine is non-surgical. Treatments are delivered by injection or infusion and are minimally invasive, which is why recovery is typically faster than after surgery.
What treatments does Skylake offer?
Skylake focuses on stem cell therapy using Wharton’s Jelly-derived mesenchymal stem cells and exosome therapy derived from those same cells, often used together for a combined regenerative effect.
Are these therapies FDA-approved?
There are currently no FDA-approved stem cell or exosome therapies. Skylake operates under the Florida Stem Cell Therapy Act, which authorizes licensed physicians to provide these therapies under strict safety and sourcing standards.
How much does regenerative medicine cost?
Because every plan is personalized, there is no single set price. Regenerative therapy is a self-pay treatment and is not covered by insurance; a team member reviews all costs with you before treatment begins.
Is it safe?
Skylake reports no negative side effects from its stem cell and exosome treatments. All cells undergo rigorous donor screening and testing, and treatment is overseen by licensed physicians.
When will I see results?
Results vary. Some patients notice improvement within the first week; for others it takes several weeks. Your physician will discuss expected outcomes for your condition.
